“In my role at Ardent,” shares Rylynn, “I work with project managers, directors, and executive leadership to ensure that our projects run smoothly and efficiently, meeting established financial targets.” Additionally, she manages a project at the Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), showcasing her dedication to driving results.
Beginning in contracts and subcontracts, she honed her skills and expertise before transitioning into resource management and eventually finding her niche in program finance. “What inspired me to pursue a career in this field was really the wealth of opportunities in government contracting,” Rylynn reflects. “The reason I stayed is because of the relationships. There are so many examples of amazing, successful leaders in technology and consulting that I have worked with over the past 15 years. Having these connections allowed me to have people to help bolster my confidence or simply just be in your corner when you need the support.”
Throughout her nine-year tenure at Ardent, Rylynn Mason has played a pivotal role in various projects and initiatives, however there is one that particularly stood out to her. “My involvement in the group of employees that brainstormed, discussed, and then distilled our work experiences into a defined set of Ardent core values made me particularly proud,” she reflects. This collaborative effort not only enriched Ardent’s identity but also fostered unity and purpose among employees.
In her journey through the technology and consulting sectors, Rylynn has encountered her fair share of challenges – balancing competing priorities, managing aggressive timelines, navigating varying stakeholder expectations, and bumping up against gender biases in business. Rylynn acknowledges the importance of confronting challenges head-on and sometimes leaning on her network for support and guidance. “I’m fortunate to have an amazing network of peers and colleagues that offer a space to share challenges and brainstorm solutions.”
“First and foremost,” Rylynn emphasizes, “know your worth. It is essential to recognize the value you bring to the table and to trust in your abilities. When presented with an opportunity that aligns with your skillset and piques your curiosity, do not hesitate to dive in. Take ownership of your work, empower yourself through research, and execute with confidence. Imposter syndrome is a common challenge many of us face, but it is important not to let it hold you back. Remember, you are likely more amazing and capable than you give yourself credit for.”
Rylynn advocates embracing educational training and certification goals as essential components of professional growth. “Go after the educational training and certification goals you have,” she urges. “Investing in your skills and knowledge will always benefit you in the long run. You deserve the opportunities that will open up as a result of your dedication and expertise.”
Drawing from her own experiences, Rylynn shares a piece of advice she wishes she had known earlier in her career. “Trust and navigate crossroads by looking within yourself first,” she advises. “Not all ‘opportunities’ are the right opportunities for you. It is crucial to listen to your instincts and intuition. Embrace your curiosity – if you are curious about a role or field, why not explore and move in that direction? Curiosity serves as a powerful internal compass, guiding you towards fulfilling experiences and opportunities for growth.”
Rylynn’s journey throughout her career and with Ardent embodies resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment. Through her experiences navigating the complexities of program finance, confronting challenges as a woman in her field, and embracing opportunities for growth and self-discovery, Rylynn emerges as a beacon of inspiration and empowerment.
