ArdentMC President Brandon LaBonte participated in this year’s Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Homeland Security Conference. Brandon was invited to speak on the use of Geospatial Information and its application to homeland security collaboration and information sharing.
“There is a vast amount of geospatial information available to Homeland Security Partners; so much that the information easily creates an overload condition…” Brandon elaborated on complex burden on homeland security operators to effectively utilize such large amounts of data for situational awareness.
Brandon demonstrated the Department of Homeland Security’s Integrated Common Analytical Viewer (iCAV), which provides robust infrastructure data management capabilities. Through the use of consistent XML data sets coupled with accessible metadata, ArdentMC has simplified data collaboration through one-click access to over 300 disparate infrastructure layers and the development of online data catalogs and glossaries. 
Searchable catalogs and glossaries encourage increased collaboration thanks to the ability to rapidly identify specific geospatial data sets as well as underlying attribute information.
“Operations center users have minutes to create a map when an event occurs…they do not have time to wade through mountains of data to communicate the common operational picture of the event” said Brandon. Working directly with operations center staff, ArdentMC analysts have developed solutions designed specifically around the mission requirements for rapid access to understandable, relevant data.
